Chevron Championship cut Leona Maguire

Which big names missed the cut at the Chevron Championship?

Major winners and players in the top ten in the world are among those to struggle over the first two days…

We are two rounds through the Chevron Championship, and there are some big names who have missed the cut at the halfway stage.

From major champions to Solheim Cup stars, there are plenty of surprise names that failed to make it through the weekend.

The Chevron Championship is taking place at The Club at Carlton Woods, with the stars of the LPGA and Ladies European Tour playing on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course.

Much like the Masters Tournament last week, the scores have not been that low, with the overnight leaders sitting at 8-under through two rounds.

It is Jin Hee Im and Atthaya Thitikul lead the way, while a certain Nelly Korda is just a shot back as she aims to win a fifth consecutive LPGA Tour title.

But who has failed to make it through to the final two rounds….

Chevron Championship cut Hyo Joo Kim

Who has missed the cut at the Chevron Championship?

Major champions, Solheim Cup stars, players in the top ten in the world… There are plenty of stars who aren’t sticking around for the week.

Four of the world’s top ten failed to make it through. Frenchwoman Celine Boutier, who won the Amundi Evian Championship in 2023, is among those who failed to make it through. A double and two bogeys around the turn on Friday cost her a place in the field for the weekend as she finished at 4-over.

Minjee Lee, Jin Young Ko and Hyo Joo Kim are also done after two rounds. Ko was the closest of the big names, only missing out on the cut line by a single shot, while rounds of 77 on the second day for both Lee and Kim saw them miss out by bigger margins.

Ireland’s Leona Maguire and Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen, both members of the 2023 European team at Finca Cortesin, were also among those who struggled across the opening two days in Texas.

Rising star Rose Zhang finished 5-over, after rounds of 74 and 75. The American could only manage a single birdie on Friday. Solheim Cup teammates Danielle Kang and Lexi Thompson also missed the cut.

Former Open champion Ashleigh Buhai recorded a 2-under-par 70 in the second round. Unfortunately for the South African, the 11-over round of 83 on the opening day killed any chance of her making it through to the weekend.

Five-time major champion Yani Tseng finished with one of the highest aggregate scores at 156 after consecutive 78s. Angel Yin withdrew after the first round.

Selected Players Missing the Cut:

Jin Young Ko – +3 (76-71)
Patty Tavatanakit – +4 (77-71)
Celine Boutier – +4 (75-73)
Leona Maguire – +4 (72-76)
Hannah Green – +5 (77-72)
Rose Zhang – +5 (74-75)
Minjee Lee – +7 (74-77)
Emily Kristine Pedersen – +8 (79-73)
Lexi Thompson – +8 (78-74)
Hyo Joo Kim – +8 (75-77)
Ashleigh Buhai – +9 (83-70)
Danielle Kang – +9 (74-79)
Yani Tseng – +12 (78-78)
Angel Yin – +6 (WD)

Mention a European country, and Matt will tell you which resorts make the National Club Golfer Top 100s: European Resorts list. He might even throw in who designed the golf course and how many rooms the hotel has got at each one…

Matt got into the game of golf from a young age, following his old man to the local golf club. He fell for the sport, and now can’t seem to go a day without thinking about how to improve his game (Thanks Dad!). Matt has been a member of Howley Hall GC in Leeds since 2020, and is just about managing to maintain a single-figure handicap. He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.

He moved to Leeds after graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism. Matt joined NCG after almost five years travelling the world with the Professional Squash Association, working on events in all four corners of the globe.

Matt currently plays a Cobra King LTDx driver and RadSpeed 3-wood. TaylorMade monopolise the rest of his bag, with a SIM UDI, M5 irons and both Milled Grind and HI-TOE wedges, along with a Monza Redline putter. He uses a Vice Pro Plus golf ball, because he’s a bit different…

Away from golf, Matt is a Manchester United fan, and a keen runner, having ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (his first and possibly last), in May 2023.
