US Open prize money: How much did the winner earn?
What will the winner of the 124th US Open at Pinehurst bank?
The US Open is one of the biggest events in golf, and with it comes a handsome prize fund for the competitors and a large chunk for the winner.
The players competed for a payout of $20 million and a winner’s share of $3.6 million at the 123rd US Open in 2023 at Los Angeles Country Club.
This increased from $17.5 million in 2022 and the $3.15 million that Matt Fitzpatrick won at Brookline for his first major title.
USGA CEO Mike Whan announced on Wednesday before the playing of the organisation’s 1000th event that the total purse this week is $21.5 million and the winner will receive the staggering amount of $4.3 million.
This represents a significant increase from the $3,600,000 that Wyndham Clark won in LA 12 months ago. This total purse and the winner’s cheque is larger than that of a LIV Golf event, which dishes out $4 million to the winner, and more than a winner of a Signature Event on the PGA Tour.
