Frequently Asked Questions about the Wells Fargo Championship

When and where will the Wells Fargo Championship take place?

The 2024 edition of the Wells Fargo Championship will take place between May 9-12, and will be played at its regular home of the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Who won last season’s Wells Fargo Championship?

Wyndham Clark was the winner at the 2023 edition of the tournament, securing his first victory on the PGA Tour. It was a breakthrough win for the American, who would go on to win the US Open and play in the Ryder Cup within five months of his maiden win.

What is the history around the tournament?

The Wells Fargo Championship is one of the newer events on the PGA Tour, with the tournament’s inception only being in 2003.

It started out as the Wachovia Championship, and spent a couple of years as the Quail Hollow Championship before becoming the Wells Fargo due to sponsorship reasons from 2011.

Prior to being the main host of the Wells Fargo Championship, the Quail Hollow Club had been the host of a PGA Tour event. The venue was the host of the Kemper Open from 1969 to 1979.

Quail Hollow is the regular host of the tournament, only taking a break from hosting duties in 2017 and 2022. That was due to the club playing host to the PGA Championship and the Presidents Cup, respectively.

Rory McIlroy is the only three-time winner of the Wells Fargo Championship, with victories in 2010, 2015 and 2021. Max Homa is a two-time winners, while the likes of Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Tiger Woods and Wyndham Clark have all been victorious at Quail Hollow.

How do golfers qualify to play at Quail Hollow?

With the event being one of the eight Signature Events on the 2024 PGA Tour schedule, there is a smaller field at Quail Hollow this week. Only 70 players will take the course come Thursday morning.

There were several ways of getting into the field, with players in the following categories in the field:

  • Top 50 on the FedEx Cup Standings for 2023
  • Aon Next 10 (the ten highest ranked players on the 2024 FedEx Cup Standings, not already exempt)
  • Aon Swing 5 (the top five points earners from the four previous full-field events, that were not already exempt)
  • PGA Tour winners in 2024 (not including additional events)
  • Sponsor exemptions

Is there a cut at the Wells Fargo Championship?

With the tournament being a Signature Event on the PGA Tour, only 70 players enter the week.

Therefore, there is no cut after two days. Instead, all 70 players will feature across all four days of the competition.

What are the odds for the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship?
