Protesters storm the 18th green during finale of Travelers Championship
Protestors broke under the ropes of the 18th hole on Sunday at the Travelers Championship while World No.1 Scottie Scheffler was on the green…
A group of protesters stormed the 18th green shortly before the finale of the Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour.
Footage showed multiple protesters being tackled by police on the green and by a greenside bunker on the final hole at TPC River Highlands.
One protestor ran through the bunker with a yellow-coloured smoke device just behind the back of World No.1 Scottie Scheffler who broke into a wry smile.
Some protestors being led away by authorities were wearing white t-shirts that said “No golf on a dead planet” on the front in big black letters.

Golf protestors strike at the Travelers Championship
White and red powder stains were left on the green, with one particular patch marked near the line of Tom Kim’s birdie putt which he holed to force a playoff with Scheffler. Scheffler went on to take his sixth victory of the season.
Images from the event in Cromwell, Connecticut also showed Akshay Bhatia having to put through the mess that was left on the putting surface by the protestors. Tournament officials endeavoured to scrub the mess from the floor.
Despite claims across social media that the protestors belonged to Just Stop Oil, the group that hit The Open at Hoylake last year with a similar protest, Extinction Rebellion have claimed responsibility by sending a press release to various members of golf media.
Extinction Rebellion is an environmental, non-violent movement that aims to address issues with climate and ecological emergencies.
