‘That’s the biggest lie!’: Donald Trump blasts Joe Biden handicap claim in live debate
Donald Trump took President Joe Biden to task in a US presidential debate when Biden claimed he once got his handicap down to single figures…
Donald Trump accused President Joe Biden of lying about his golf handicap during the first debate of the 2024 US election campaign.
During the back-and-forth on CNN which led to one viral clip after another being posted on social media, Biden challenged Trump, the former President and owner of a vast golf course portfolio, to a driving contest after revealing he got his handicap to single figures in his days as Vice President.
The exchange was quite something, and is summarised below:
“I’d be happy to have a driving contest with him,” Biden said.
“I got my handicap, when I was Vice President, down to a 6 and by the way, I’m happy to play golf if you carry your own bag. Think you can do it?
“That’s the biggest lie, that he’s a 6 handicap, of all!” Trump replied.
“I was an 8 handicap,” Biden added, to which Trump said “Never.”
“I’ve seen your swing. I know your swing. Let’s not act like children,” Trump concluded.
The debate got somewhat personal at certain stages during its 90-minute duration. When the pair weren’t talking about golf, Biden called Trump a “sucker” and a “loser” and said he had the “morals of an alley cat.”
At another point, Trump said about one of Biden’s answers: “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence, and I don’t think he did either.”
Trump, now 78 years old and four years younger than his presidential successor, reportedly has a golf handicap of 3.

Donald Trump shuts down Joe Biden golf handicap claim
This is not the first time golf has appeared in a squabble between Biden and Trump, one of which will be voted in as America’s President on November 5.
In March, Trump posted to his Truth Social account that he won the club championship and senior club championship trophies at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.
This information was shared to X (formerly Twitter) by an account called ‘Donald J. Trump Posts From His Truth Social’ and Biden took the opportunity to respond with: “Congratulations Donald. Quite the accomplishment.”
The internet has become accustomed to videos and news bulletins of Trump’s golf swing and his general involvement in the sport, primarily due to his work in developing golf courses on a global scale.
The Trump name is rubberstamped on golf courses in the UK, Ireland, America, Dubai, Oman and Indonesia. In 2014, the businessman-turned-politician revealed that he bought Turnberry which hasn’t hosted The Open Championship since 2009.
