What are the perks of winning the US Women’s Open?
Exemptions, money, points and a lot more… Winning the US Women’s Open doesn’t stop with the Harton S. Semple Trophy!
The Harton S. Semple Trophy isn’t the only thing the winner of the US Women’s Open receives, so what are the perks of winning the tournament?
Let’s take a look at the perks of winning the US Women’s Open, from the trophy, to prize money, to a place in the tournament’s history forever…
Perks of winning the US Women’s Open
The incredible Harton S. Semple Trophy
There are some great prizes in golf. The Green Jacket at the Masters. The Claret Jug at the Open Championship. And the Harton S. Semple Trophy for the winner of the US Women’s Open.
The trophy is adorned with some of the biggest names in golf, including Annika Sorenstam, Betsy Rawls, Mickey Wright, Inbee Park and Karrie Webb.
The winner of the US Women’s Open gets to keep the real thing for a year, before giving it back ahead of the next edition of the tournament.
The Mickey Wright Medal
Not only is there a trophy on offer, but the winner of the tournament also gets to put on the Mickey Wright Medal.
The awarding of the medal originates (like the Harton S. Semple Trophy) from the 1953 US Women’s Open – the first under the stewardship of the USGA.
Ahead of the 2020 edition of the tournament, the medal was named after Mickey Wright, the four-time winner of the event. It was the first time that the winner’s medal had been named.
The prize money isn’t bad, either
Allisen Corpuz won a record $2 million for her victory at Pebble Beach Golf Links in 2023. Although we don’t know the exact breakdown, we know that it is another record prize purse this year.
The prize fund for the 2024 US Women’s Open is up to $12 million, a 9% increase on the year before. That makes it the biggest prize purse ever for a women’s golf tournament.
You get a 10-year exemption to the US Women’s Open
Win the US Women’s Open this year and you don’t have to worry for the next decade.
The winner of the tournament receives a 10-year exemption into the US Women’s Open, giving them the chance to double up for the next decade.
You are locked in to the other majors
Winning at the US Women’s Open brings exemptions into the other four major championships.
The winner of the Harton S. Semple Trophy will be assured of their place in the Chevron Championship, Women’s PGA Championship, Amundi Evian Championship and the AIG Women’s Open for the next five years.

Mention a European country, and Matt will tell you which resorts make the National Club Golfer Top 100s: European Resorts list. He might even throw in who designed the golf course and how many rooms the hotel has got at each one…
Matt got into the game of golf from a young age, following his old man to the local golf club. He fell for the sport, and now can’t seem to go a day without thinking about how to improve his game (Thanks Dad!). Matt has been a member of Howley Hall GC in Leeds since 2020, and is just about managing to maintain a single-figure handicap. He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.
He moved to Leeds after graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism. Matt joined NCG after almost five years travelling the world with the Professional Squash Association, working on events in all four corners of the globe.
Matt currently plays a Cobra King LTDx driver and RadSpeed 3-wood. TaylorMade monopolise the rest of his bag, with a SIM UDI, M5 irons and both Milled Grind and HI-TOE wedges, along with a Monza Redline putter. He uses a Vice Pro Plus golf ball, because he’s a bit different…
Away from golf, Matt is a Manchester United fan, and a keen runner, having ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (his first and possibly last), in May 2023.
