Fourteen FRZ Wedge Review: First Impressions

Premium looks

For many Fourteen may be a relatively unknown brand, but they have plenty to offer. From my first glances at the FRZ wedge I was impressed with the meticulously designed club that looks quality. I thought the milling detail, highlighted with a feather-like pattern, was visually striking, while the back of the club maintained a clean and understated aesthetic. Even without prior knowledge of Fourteen Golf, it’s evident that this is a premium wedge designed with precision.

NCG Verdict

High quality

Fourteen Golf has a well-established reputation for building high-quality golf clubs, and the FRZ wedge is no exception. The clubhead is forged from S20C steel, which is known for its durability and exceptional feel. The face is expertly milled and comes paired with a Nippon S Pro shaft or Dynamic Gold shaft, available in two distinct finishes: Pearl Chrome Satin and Smokey Black.

Grind and loft options

One of the standout features of the FRZ wedge is its variety of grind and loft options. Golfers can select from a number of types of sole – S Type (Standard), H Type (High Bounce), and T Type (Tour Preferred for face manipulation). This will ensure that every type of player can find a configuration that suits their game. This level of customisation is a testament to Fourteen Golf’s commitment to precision and versatility.

Spin control

I tested the FRZ wedge on the course across various shots to gauge an honest conclusion of how good this wedge is. I hit chip shots, pitch shots, bunker shots, and even 60–70 yard approaches, all of which revealed its exceptional spin control.

Across the board, I found the wedge delivered a soft, controlled feel, allowing for aggressive shot-making with consistent backspin. Around the greens, the ball seemed to skid up the face, ensuring crisp contact and reliable results. The milling and superior groove design clearly enhance friction, making it one of the highest-spinning wedges on the market.

Final Verdict

A beautiful club

Overall, the Fourteen FRZ wedge is a beautifully engineered club that offers unmatched spin control and feel. Its legacy in innovation when it comes to face grooves is clear, and its build quality is evident from the first swing.

While it may not be widely recognized in Western markets, its performance and craftsmanship are undeniable. For golfers looking to separate themselves from the pack with a wedge that truly performs, the Fourteen FRZ is an outstanding choice.
