First Impressions

My first impressions of the Golfstream Vision Brake were very positive. I had no prior knowledge of the brand but I immediately liked the clean look to the trolley. The relevant features include a unique one-touch fold/unfold mechanism, downhill braking, bright LCD screen with large numerals and slick, low-profile high grip tyres.

The speed settings are in 0.5 increments and there is the option to send the trolly off for 10, 20 or 30 yards. The model I tested came with the standard 18 hole battery but a larger battery is available or you can buy it without one. Setting it up was simple and I can vouch for their claim about the ease of doing so. Without the battery it folds extremely flat. There is a magnet to hold everything in place when folded. There are instructions about how to carry it which, if followed, make it easy to carry. With the battery in-situ the trolley is held together by a strap when folded. Not necessarily the most elegant solution but reliable enough.

Of note are the tyres, which apparently last 5 times longer than equivalent than standard tyres. Despite being slick, Golfstream claim they have excellent grip. They clearly trust their product and the trolley comes with a 2 year guarantee with 3 years on the lithium batteries.

Taking it out onto the course gave me the opportunity to see the features in practice. Firstly , as mentioned, putting it up was a doddle. The design lets most bags sit securely without any wobble.

Next, the screen is a joy. It is simple and has big numerals allowing to to be easily readable in strong sunlight, which was the case when I tested it. The menu allows the selection of a simple mode without the “fancy extras” as the instructions put it.

There are many trolleys at this price point and the next thing is one of the two main features that would make me choose this trolley. The speed control, although indexed in 0.5 increments allows for a very smooth transition of speeds. This made getting the perfect speed for your walking pace no problem. I have used other brands where I sometimes felt my pace was between speeds.

The second aspect that would be a major selling point is the downhill control. It worked perfectly. There were no issues in general use, even going down fairly steep banks. This coupled with the high grip tyres allowed it to deal with most terrain admirably. The one thing I would say is that it stops quite abruptly. This was more so than other trolleys I have used but I got used to it fairly quickly and was not really an issue.

Golfstream state in their instructions that the trolley cannot be pushed as the downhill control means there is no clutch. Indeed they recommend against pushing the trolley without power. The wheels have a “get me home” setting where they can be moved along on the axel to allow freewheeling in the event of some sort of mechanical failure or dead battery.

Holding the button for 2 seconds allows selection of distance control sending the trolley off for 10, 20 or 30 yards. It is not a function I use often but it is on many trolleys and there if you want it.

The front wheel has been designed to minimise clogging and taking off the main wheels is easy. There multiple accessories available including the ability to change the colours of the trim should you so desire.

Golfstream Vision Brake Electric Golf Trolley: Final thoughts

Overall I was impressed with this trolley. The only negatives are that the straps and the handles look a little “budget”. The other thing, not unique to this trolley, is the potential vulnerability of the screen to damage. I know this only too well to my cost with my own trolley which is another brand but I have seen countless trolleys of all brands with broken screens.

Those minor gripes aside, functionally, I really liked this. For the price it offers great performance, in particular the downhill braking, which for me, would be a massive draw. I would highly recommend checking out this trolley.
