Skechers GO GOLF Prestige Shoe Review: NCG Summary

NCG SUMMARY
It’s hard not to be tempted by a set of shoes advertised as “Hands free slip-ins” so I wasn’t quite expecting such a classic traditional looking golf shoe when I opened the box and slipped them on – designed to maximise ease and comfort, these shoes need serious consideration when you are looking for your next pair to invest in.
PROS
- Great looks if you like the traditional golf shoe style
- “Slip-in” design works, even for people like me with wide feet!
- Lots of features to maximise comfort and support your feet
- 100% waterproof
CONS
- Make sure you choose soft spikes or spikeless (SL version) if you have a preference
- Not so keen on the ‘Skechers slipins’ printed on the heel
First Impressions
Pleasant surprise
Not all Skechers golf shoes have been easy on the eye so it was a pleasant surprise to find this model was designed not only to maximise ease and comfort but also catch the attention of those looking for a classy brogue style shoe with great detailing on the stitching.
Heel pillow
Taking them out of the box, I was drawn to the Heel of the shoe as this was a lot more padded than normally seen. As I put the shoes on I would admit to bending over to tie the laces (the box says “no more bending”) and having put the shoes on they looked great and the support I felt around my foot was exceptional. The Skechers information on this shoe points to Heel pillow technology and Arch fit support – what these mean in reality is your heel is really well cushioned and held in place (hence the padding) and the arch of your foot is lifted slightly to reduce stress on the foot by being more supported. I have slightly flat feet so these felt great!
Easy Slip-In
Whenever I get a new pair of golf shoes I try to spend a bit of time wearing them around the garden etc a few times and seeing if there are any pinch points before I try them on the course (and regret it later) these passed the garden test no problem and as I tried to slip them on and off a few times without untying the laces I could see how you could get used to the ease of how this worked and if you are the person who’s always rushing to get changed this might be an answer as its functional and your feet are surprisingly secure.

On Course Testing
Having passed the garden testing stage, I took the shoes out at my local course Sandmoor in Leeds. Like the rest of the UK, there’s not been much rain around in April/May and so this was going to be a real test of comfort as the ground was rock solid to say the least.

Arch fit support
After 9 holes my feet felt great – all the innovations by Skechers were definitely paying off as my feet have usually warmed up by this stage and I can usually feel my golf shoes a bit tighter – no problem with these and no sign of any potential blisters from wearing new shoes.
I read that Skechers had developed the Arch fit support with podiatrist input and data from over 120,000 foot scans. I can certainly attest to the comfort underfoot from these shoes and over the full round my feet felt fresh throughout.

Stability
On top of comfort these shoes felt really stable, Sandmoor is pretty undulating at times, with sidehill and up and downhill lies – no problem for these shoes, I was testing the spiked version ( 7 spikes) and these provided good traction and firm stability no matter what incline I was stood on. There is a spikeless version and as I enquired how this worked the very helpful Skechers team told me that the spikeless shoes featured a traction plate that incorporates strategically placed, multi-directional lugs that are designed to grip the turf without feeling bulky or cleat-like.

Final verdict
A classic brogue to be considered
For those who prioritise maximum comfort, walkability, and ease of use, these shoes are a top contender. Skechers have fit in loads of their comfort innovations and in addition made them attractive to those seeking a more traditional looking golf shoe.

If you play regularly and are thinking of changing shoes based on comfort then these shoes need to be considered a serious option.
