Payntr have made huge waves in the golf shoe market, partnering with Jason Day in an equity ownership deal in 2024 to take the brand to new heights and give tour feedback on performance and design in golf shoes. Justin Rose has also recently switched to Payntr – supporting him to his win at FedEx St.Jude Championship.
Last year, Payntr released a new training shoe alongside their golf shoe range to aid athletes with the competition prep off the course and on it. I’ve been running and lifting as consistently as ever since the start of the year, so I have been able to give these a real thorough testing.

Payntr Trainer X 001: First Impressions
I am well into shoes. I own 10+ pairs of golf shoes, 4 pairs of running shoes, 2 pairs of gym shoes and even some casual barefoot style shoes that are supposed to return my feet back to my ancestral natural shape, which I’m not convinced have yet worked.
I am drawn to these shoes at first because of their carbon sole. This is tech that we have seen for a bit in running shoes and is spreading to more hybrid shoes like the Trainer X 001.
I love the simple design of these trainers. You can never have enough pairs of white trainers, and these wear well with any of your training/running outfits. The woven upper is light and flexible giving you the impression you could wear them all day, and having the carbon visible on the sole is a great touch, too.

NCG Verdict
I have pushed these trainers to the limit. I’ve worn them for strength sessions, CrossFit, running half marathons, hitting balls at the driving range and lots and lots of tennis.
Straight out of the box, you feel an exceptional amount of support from the shoe; the soles seem quite wide, which helps you feel well grounded and balanced. The woven jacquard upper weaves TPU thread, which keeps your foot locked in despite being very light.

The big selling point in the Payntr Trainer X-001 is the CARBITEX™️ MonoFlex propulsion plate. The MonoFlex works to protect your feet and minimize over-bending to reduce fatigue, and you do feel like the shoe is giving you some energy back whilt running or jumping.
I have worn these shoes for days on end and have always found them to be extremely comfortable and breatheable.
They are better than a lot of other training shoes to hit golf balls in as the structure of the shoe allows your toes not to get crushed in your finish position, which is something I often find.

I have really enjoyed wearing the Payntr Trainer X-001 carbon trainers, they have been stress tested to the max and are still going strong & wearing well. I am absolutely going to replace them with an identical pair if I am ever able to wear them out. No doubt the best training shoe I have every owned!
