First Impressions

For those that have not read my review on the G/FORE MG4+ O2 spiked shoe then I will be covering all the details but this is one of the easier reviews I have done as the new spikeless shoe is nearly identical to the excellent, spiked version.

The visual appearance is highly appealing. They have a modern look which as well as being pleasing to the eye, wears its functionality on its metaphorical sleeve. These have clearly been designed with comfort and performance as an absolute priority. The comfort, as with the spiked version, is supreme. G/FORE have features such as a strategically positioned foam interior with padded tongue and their signature 3-D removable insole for comfort. There is a mesh lining with enhanced breathability and odour control benefits.

The sole is their innovative TPU sole with heel-toe saw-tooth traction with intermittent breaks for increased flexibility. They also describe an anatomically-designed, responsive EVA midsole with auxetic sidewall which keeps your feet comfortable after a long day on the course. The upper is light-weight and water-repellant. I tried them out in wet-conditions and my feet stayed nice and dry.

My first impressions when putting these on were that they are extremely comfortable. Shoes have come on significantly and you can have comfort and stability without compromising either now. The G/FORE MG4+ O2 are no exception and they are one of the most comfortable shoes I have tried. The flexibility in the sole does not seem to make them flimsy or unsupportive in any way and I think this is in part due to the excellent support around the heel.

On Course Testing

In use they were superb. The combination of comfort focussed design and the support around the heel made these shoes perform like their spiked counterpart. It has really impressed me that a shoe that feels like you could easily wear it all day and has the robustness to be a proper golf shoe. I have a pair of spikeless shoes that are comfortable but I would not really feel they would do the job on a full round on the uneven terrain of a golf course. Not so the G/FORE. These, for me, are the perfect all-round spikeless shoe. I would happily wear them all summer. The spikeless soles still provided excellent traction in damp conditions. I am not sure that I would wear them in the winter after constant wet weather, but this would be true of any spikeless shoe, in my opinion.

NCG Verdict

In summary, the G/FORE MG4+ O2 spikeless shoe performs superbly. As I never wear spikeless shoes in the winter, I would not, personally, use this as a year round shoe. It is definitely a shoe for most terrains and weather though, and would serve well as a spring to autumn shoe.

For those in the US they go up to size 17! So, for those who struggle to find larger size shoes these might just put you out of your misery!
