The Aurora’s are Callaway’s latest entry into the world of spikeless golf shoes. So how do they perform? Nicola Slater put them to the test in our Callaway Aurora Women’s golf shoes review…

Callaway Aurora Women’s golf shoes review: NCG Summary

4.5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

The Callaway Aurora Women’s golf shoes are a great pair of all-leather spikeless golf shoes. The Opti-Soft Foam midsole insert allows your foot to melt into the shoe providing lots of support. The half-foam, half-rubber sole provides a bouncy step and a decent amount of traction.

PROS

  • Mold to your feet
  • Lightweight.
  • Great range of sizes

CONS

  • Wide fitting isn’t very wide

First Impressions

Aesthetically, I really enjoy the style of these shoes. I love casual, spikeless golf shoes which provide comfort and style on the course. Colourwise I often stick to black and white golf shoes however I did enjoy the subtle champagne colour. Whilst this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, Callaway does offer the Aurora in a dazzling Silver/Blue and a slightly tamer Charcoal/Coral.

Taking these out of the box in my house and trying them I thought that they were a touch on the small side. I am a UK 7.5 (EU 41), which these were, in a wide fitting. They seemed to have a very padded sole and lining which in the middle of the foot felt a little strange. I decided that I would keep this size and see how they were out on the course and I am very glad I did.

On Course Testing

Walking down to the first fairway I had certainly changed my option on the Aurora shoes since trying them on at home. That foam padding on the inside is Callaway’s Opti-Soft Foam Midsole insert, which I initially thought squashed my foot in fact molded to my feet providing a great amount of support. Being made of foam my foot actually bedded into the shoe which was very comfortable. This also meant that I no longer doubted the shoe sizing and would say that they are a perfect fit! However, I must point out that as someone who doesn’t typically buy wide-fit shoes, I definitely needed this in these.

With these shoes being spikeless Callaway has had to find other ways of creating traction. The sole of the shoe is made up of a mixture of foam corrugation and rubber grooves. The foam makes the shoes very bouncing when walking which is great as it takes the pressure off of your feet. In terms of grip, I wouldn’t say they were super grippy when walking but they provided a solid base for shots with no slipping. The corrugated foam wasn’t as sharp after only a couple of rounds and so the grip long-term might not be as good.

Callaway Aurora Women's golf shoes review

A lot of ‘summer’ spikeless golf shoes tend to be mainly comprised of mesh. I really like that these are all leather and would feel comfortable playing in them on a wet day. Speaking of being waterproof, Callaway offers a 12-month waterproof guarantee with these shoes.

The leather makes it also makes them very easy to wipe off after the round. No need to put them in the washing machine!

The 19th hole

The Callaway Aurora shoes come with a 30-day comfort guarantee. Whilst the box has “out of the box comfort” printed on it, I didn’t quite believe it, but after taking them out on the course, I must say these are some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever played golf in…they certainly grew on me.

Whilst I wouldn’t wear these purposely outside of the golfing scene, their casual look and feel mean that you wouldn’t stand out to be wearing golf shoes off of the course.
