Sun Mountain Eco-Lite X-Strap Sunday Bag Review: NCG Summary

5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

This Sun Mountain Sunday bag is the ideal option for golfers looking to upgrade their pencil bag. Somehow Sun Mountain have managed to shave off any unnecessary weight to get it down to a minuscule 2lbs which is amazing for players who likes to whip their bag out of the car and round 9 holes in under 90 minutes.

The weight savings do not, however, mean that this bag is uncomfortable; Sun Mountain have included super thick padding in the shoulder straps and on the back pad to make using it an all-round pleasurable experience.

PROS

  • Super light – only 2lbs
  • Very comfortable straps and back pads
  • Plenty of room for a full set
  • adequate pocket space for a bag this size

CONS

  • Premium price point may be off-putting to some potential customers.

First Impressions

As an obsessive-compulsive practicer, I operate a multi-bag system out of my car (senior amateur tour truck), where I take the clubs I want to use in that session out of the tournament bag and into the lightest pencil bag I can find to carry over to practice ground.

At first glance, the Sun Mountain Eco-Lite X-Strap Sunday bag satisfies all my needs; it’s light, padded and comfortable and doesn’t take up much room in the boot. I’ve been looking forward to getting my clubs in it and taking it out for a spin.

Sun Mountain Eco-Lite X-Strap Sunday Bag review: NCG Review

The Sun Mountain Eco-Lite Carry Golf Bag is a great option for golfers who are looking for a lightweight golf bag that has versatility and is easy to carry. This bag is constructed from REPREVE fabric, which is made from recycled plastic bottles and supports Sun Mountain in their membership of “1% for the planet” – an international organization whose members contribute at least one percent of their annual revenue to environmental causes to protect the environment.

Weighing in at only 2 lbs this is definitely one of the lightest golf bags available to buy and a fantastic choice for golfers who want to carry their clubs without being weighed down by a heavy golf bag. This bag is available in a choice of colours – Black, Navy, Black/Ember and Green/Rush-Green and features a prominent Sun Mountain logo on the main pocket and a subtle vista of mountains imprinted into the design of the central bag structure.

One of the main features of this golf bag is the effort put in to ensure such a light bag is comfortable. The X-Strap dual strap system is well padded – made with thick foam and shaped for extra comfort, which also makes it easy to load onto and off your shoulders.

The comfort hip pad is also well padded with thick foam and covers a larger area than other lightweight carry bags. The strap system also contains a grab handle sewn into each of the straps enabling a quick pick up as necessary.

With such a light bag it is common for manufacturers to reduce the amount of storage space as extra pockets mean more weight; however, the Eco-Lite has 2 large pockets, a bottle holder, and a velour lined valuables pocket that all adds up to plenty of space for storing golf balls, tees, gloves, and other accessories, and are large enough for storing extra layers or snacks.

This bag has an 18cm, 2-way divider top section with the divider and outer rim of the bag slightly padded to prevent wear and tear on the shafts of your clubs. At 18cm, this is large enough to comfortably fit a full set if required.

I used it mainly just with half-sets down to the driving range, but often in winter, I use a Sunday bag for my weekly game and will definitely be using it for those occasions. As is common with other carry bags, there is an umbrella strap and other clasps to affix range finders etc. It also comes with a rain hood, making it suitable for all conditions.

Overall, the Sun Mountain Eco-Lite Sunday bag is a great option for golfers who want an ultra-light weight carry bag that provides great comfort and has ample storage for clubs and accessories as required; along with its environmental credentials, this bag is sure to be a choice for many looking for a new carry bag.
