4.5 star review
NCG SUMMARY

The Puma Avant Golf Shoes in Black/Slate Sky are unbelievably smart and don’t leave you wanting for looks and style in the Autumn and Winter months.

They are comfortable, sturdy and durable and based on my exploits with them on the golf course, they complimented my performance in tough conditions.

Some golfers might not like the idea of a spikeless golf shoes in conditions that challenge you underfoot, but there should be no concerns about grip with these shoes.

  • Smart design that suits the season
  • Sturdy and solid feel that helps performance

First Impressions

The Puma Avant shoes are very much what you see is what you get – they are black, straight to the point and very smart.

Luckily though, I am often quite bland with the way I dress on the golf course. I don’t take many risks, so as much as I wasn’t blown away when first looking at the shoe, I was pleased with the outlook. This colour and style is perfect for the winter.

I have adopted black shoes in the past and they have endured the winter perfectly, in terms of their appearance and colour maintenance.

When I slipped them on, they were very comfy and any concerns I might have had about discomfort or blisters were quickly dashed.

Even the laces were black and even the sole was black. This shoe is just dark all around and although I probably wouldn’t wear these in the summer, they have a strong seasonal purpose.

On Course Testing

Stepping on to the golf course and hitting shots in the Puma Avant golf shoes, I wasn’t left disappointed. Just the appearance of these shoes made me feel safe and secure, and that I could make my normal swing with a full feeling of solidity and stability.

If you look the part, you feel the part. And if you feel the part, you can play the part. What I’m saying is that the comfort combined with the style of these shoes gave me confidence to simply concentrate on my game rather than any grip issues.

These shoes come with full-grain leather, an ENR Rubber Outsole and a ProFoam Midsole, all to benefit the feeling on your feet as walk the golf course in the Autumn and the Winter.

I particularly felt the full effect of the ENR Rubber Outsole. I think this feature of the Puma Avant golf shoes complimented the whole design and added to the overall feeling of stability I had when I was playing golf.

Some golfers might not like to leave spikes from their golf shoe choice in the Autumn and the Winter – however, the Puma Avant golf shoes do a great job in alleviating any such concerns. They do not negatively impact on performance in cold and wet conditions despite not adopting a spiked design on the bottom of the shoe.

19th Hole

Now, I usually enjoy waxing lyrical about how Puma golf shoes suit non-golf settings, social settings where you can walk around town and go for a drink while wearing them. If I’m being honest, which I am, then I don’t think the Puma Avant golf shoes suit social settings.

By all means, if you are going to watch other sports and the conditions are wet, cold and muddy – go for it. They are reliable and again, the colour compliments the season. So in that regard, I can’t really fault the Puma Avant golf shoes because they do suit other sporting contexts.

If you do wear them away from the golf course for long periods, they aren’t going to give your feet any grief. A key reason for this is not having any spikes. Without spikes, there is less chance of your feet suffering from wear and tear, so this is a huge plus.

Although I have ruled out the use of these shoes in a social setting, the versatile non-spiked design makes them useful for other sporting contexts and that is a testament to Puma. Golf shoes are now becoming universal shoes which is crucial to exposing more people to golf products.
