First Impressions

As someone who likes bold colours and patterns, both in apparel and equipment, the Cobra Ultralight Pro Cart Bag ticks that box straight away – especially in the Winter Snake Camo colourway. Although not brash, it is a bag that stands out from the crowd, and for me, that’s a big positive! On taking it out of the box, you notice that style, but you also notice how incredibly light the bag is. It is called ‘Ultralight’ for a reason, as it weighs less than 3KG.

The next thing you will notice is the sheer amount of storage space that this bag has. There are 13 pockets in total, all offering something slightly different. There are two large pockets, one on either side, perfect for chucking in the waterproofs and bulkier bits of clothing. Inside one of those pockets is the rain hood for the bag, tucked away in its own elasticated band section – a clever spot for it.

The Cobra Ultralight Pro Cart Bag also has handles on either side of the top section to make it easy to lift and carry, along with a fabric strap handle on the back, in line with the shoulder carry handle as well.

On course performance

I took it out on to the course on what was possibly the last warm weekend of the summer, and I was not disappointed. Thanks to it being so light (even with all of my gear inside it), it was easy to push around the golf course, even one that has humps, bumps and severe undulations as my home club does.

Starting at the top, and the bag has 14 full-length dividers to easily arrange your clubs, and to make it easy to grab whichever weapon you need out on the course. Most amateurs know which order that they have their clubs in their bag, and the big sections at the front are perfect for driver, fairway woods and putter. Those splits also have room for even the fattest of jumbo putter grips that might well be in use. The dividers themselves are also thick enough that they limit the amount of connection between clubs, keeping rattling to a minimum.

The 13 pockets provide ample room for everything you could possibly wish to have out on the course. The two large pockets fit the bulky clothes, hats, snoods, mittens etc that you might want for winter, along with the waterproof clothing for the British winter. Included in those pockets is a large cooler pocket, which kept a chilled bottle of water in that state for the majority of a four-hour round in 26-degree heat. I wouldn’t necessarily be keeping ice creams in there, but it was nice to still have a cold drink as it came to the final stretch of holes.

The majority of the pockets are zipped, but there is also a pair of magnetic pockets on the front of the bag, which is the perfect spot to pop your wallet, phone and keys for instance – with easy access to. The second of those magnetic pockets is perfect for a rangefinder, so you don’t need to keep it attached with a clip as most do. Throw in a big pocket for balls, two open slots for drinks on either side, and insulated pockets for the necessities, you have everything you could wish for when it comes to storage.

At first glance, you might wonder where the umbrella holder is. You will find it nicely tucked away at the back of the bag, with a large space for the umbrella to fit through, and a small loop at the bottom, which when not in use, nicely folds back into the base of the bag.

NCG Verdict

As someone that is used to carrying a stand bag on their shoulders, it takes a lot for a cart bag to convince me to go back to ferrying a big bag and a trolley around in the boot of my car. However, the Cobra Ultralight Pro Cart Bag has done exactly that. It is so easy to use, has so much space and looks fantastic, why would you not want to get it out on a weekend and push your trolley around the course with that bag looking great on it?

This bag has everything you could possibly wish for from a cart bag, and it is certainly one that I will hoping to use for a very long time.

Mention a European country, and Matt will tell you which resorts make the National Club Golfer Top 100s: European Resorts list. He might even throw in who designed the golf course and how many rooms the hotel has got at each one…

Matt got into the game of golf from a young age, following his old man to the local golf club. He fell for the sport, and now can’t seem to go a day without thinking about how to improve his game (Thanks Dad!). Matt has been a member of Howley Hall GC in Leeds since 2020, and is just about managing to maintain a single-figure handicap. He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.

He moved to Leeds after graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism. Matt joined NCG after almost five years travelling the world with the Professional Squash Association, working on events in all four corners of the globe.

Matt currently plays a Cobra King LTDx driver and RadSpeed 3-wood. TaylorMade monopolise the rest of his bag, with a SIM UDI, M5 irons and both Milled Grind and HI-TOE wedges, along with a Monza Redline putter. He uses a Vice Pro Plus golf ball, because he’s a bit different…

Away from golf, Matt is a Manchester United fan, and a keen runner, having ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (his first and possibly last), in May 2023.
