US Open Golf Betting Tips – Who Wins at Pinehurst?

It’s US Open week! The golf world descends on Pinehurst, but who do we fancy for victory…

It’s time for the third men’s golf major of the year – the US Open – but who are our betting tips for major glory at the Pinehurst Resort?

For the first time in ten years, the US Open returns to the No.2 Course at Pinehurst. Germany’s Martin Kaymer was the victor in 2014, claiming his second major title.

Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele are the major winners so far this year. Scheffler was victorious at the Masters, while Xander won his first major at the PGA Championship.

Will they double up for 2024? Can Rory McIlroy get back in the winning circle in majors? Will we see a LIV Golf League star victorious?

Or will we see another first-time major winner? Each of the last five winners of the US Open has claimed their maiden major championship crown in doing so.

Who will win? Matt Coles takes a look at some of his favourites for the second major of the year…

Scottie Scheffler @ 3/1 with bet365

He has five wins already in 2024, and they have all been elevated events. How could you possibly bet against Scottie Scheffler from taking the victory at the US Open?

Scottie Scheffler masters golf betting tips

Scottie has won five times in his last eight events, with a major, the PGA Tour’s flagship event and three Signature Events in the trophy cabinet. The last of those, the Memorial Tournament, was his first win as a father.

Earlier in the year, he blew the field away to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational by five. He then returned to TPC Sawgrass to become the first player to ever successfully defend his title at the Players Championship.

That was followed by a comfortable victory at the Masters (his second major title), with a win at the RBC Heritage coming eight days later on a Monday finish.

What’s to say he wouldn’t have won at Valhalla had it not been for the incredible sequence of events on Friday morning which led to his arrest…

Scheffler is currently only 3/1, and the favourite by far! Back him, put all your money on him!

Collin Morikawa @ 14/1 with bet365

collin morikawa

He was in the final group at the PGA Championship, and he finished runner-up to Scheffler at the Memorial Tournament on Sunday.

Surely it is only a matter of time before Collin Morikawa gets back in the winners’ circle! Not only that, but if he was to win at Pinehurst this week, he would be three-quarters of the way to the Grand Slam…

Morikawa is 14/1, and the fourth favourite for victory in North Carolina. He is in good form, and he should continue that this week.

Max Homa @ 40/1 with bet365

Surely it is only a matter of time before Max Homa wins his first major title?

He has been trending in the right direction in the majors, with top ten finishes in two of his last three outings. A T10 at Royal Liverpool last year was followed by a T3 finish at Augusta in April, his best result in a major championship to date.

At 40/1, Homa is certainly a good shout in the each way markets, with bet365 offering money for golfers finishing in the top eight and ties.

Robert MacIntyre @ 80/1 with bet365

He couldn’t? Could he? Two weeks on from a first PGA Tour title, could we see Bob MacIntyre win his first major crown?

The Scot was clutch down the stretch at the RBC Canadian Open a couple of weeks ago, holding on to the lead through the final few holes to clinch his maiden PGA Tour title.

Instead of playing at the Memorial, he took a few days off, went home and visited family, before travelling back to the States for this week’s US Open.

Stranger things have happened, and at 80/1, MacIntyre is definitely a good shout to place, even if he doesn’t secure the victory.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout @ 125/1 with bet365

South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout is my outside shot for glory at Pinehurst this week.

The South African has three top tens on the PGA Tour in 2024, including a 4th place finish at the Memorial Tournament on Sunday. He is in decent form, and at 125/1, well worth a few quid!

Other Big Name Odds

10/1 – Rory McIlroy
11/1 – Xander Schauffele
16/1 – Viktor Hovland
18/1 – Ludvig Aberg, Bryson DeChambeau
20/1 – Brooks Koepka
25/1 – Jon Rahm
33/1 – Tommy Fleetwood
40/1 – Patrick Cantlay, Matt Fitzpatrick, Cameron Smith, Justin Thomas
50/1 – Hideki Matsuyama
55/1 – Wyndham Clark, Shane Lowry, Jordan Spieth, Will Zalatoris
80/1 – Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Sungjae Im
125/1 – Brian Harman
150/1 – Rickie Fowler
225/1 – Tiger Woods

Mention a European country, and Matt will tell you which resorts make the National Club Golfer Top 100s: European Resorts list. He might even throw in who designed the golf course and how many rooms the hotel has got at each one…

Matt got into the game of golf from a young age, following his old man to the local golf club. He fell for the sport, and now can’t seem to go a day without thinking about how to improve his game (Thanks Dad!). Matt has been a member of Howley Hall GC in Leeds since 2020, and is just about managing to maintain a single-figure handicap. He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.

He moved to Leeds after graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism. Matt joined NCG after almost five years travelling the world with the Professional Squash Association, working on events in all four corners of the globe.

Matt currently plays a Cobra King LTDx driver and RadSpeed 3-wood. TaylorMade monopolise the rest of his bag, with a SIM UDI, M5 irons and both Milled Grind and HI-TOE wedges, along with a Monza Redline putter. He uses a Vice Pro Plus golf ball, because he’s a bit different…

Away from golf, Matt is a Manchester United fan, and a keen runner, having ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (his first and possibly last), in May 2023.
