I tested the version in Stone, which is really a pale cream. Although it’s perhaps not the most practical colour for poor weather golf, it does rather stand out, and different colours are available.
As you’d expect from a gilet, it is comfortable to wear on the course and offers lightweight warmth and wind resistance. There is a quilted front and upper back with very stretchy lower back and side panels. There is a full length zip closure and two handy zippered side pockets (which I’ll probably never use). On the inside, there is a snug fleece lining which adds to the sense of warmth.
I have used this as a third layer, over a polo and midlayer. And, for me, it doesn’t really lend itself to wearing beneath a waterproof as it is a little bulky. That’s also an issue if you’re taking it off mid-round because it’ll take up a bit of space in you winter bag.
It is a premium price, but my experience with FootJoy is that they make durable garments which are designed to last.

First of all, I visually loved this J.Lindeberg gilet. The cabernet colour was a personal favourite of mine, I think it aesthetically stood out and looked sharp and smart.
A gilet is an extremely useful piece of golf clothing, in my opinion. It can be worn in all seasons and sometimes you don’t need or want a big jacket to stay warm, a gilet will do the job easily enough.
Although this is very much a featherweight gilet, extremely thin, it does help to retain some heat with its wind proofing and elasticated binding to arm holes to help trap the heat. I must say when testing this I did have a base layer underneath my polo and I would recommend another layer either over this gilet or underneath for when the temperatures really drop.
The lightness is a huge benefit for breathability and moveability, which are both delivered in abundance. Its a delight to wear. It was comfortable, fitted nicely and to size, and coped well in blustery conditions.
The PING Burford is a full-zip wind-resistant vest. Its 3-dimensional quilted textured fabric gives it a lightweight warmth and breathability. Staying warm and still being able to swing freely is important and this vest has a lot of versatility.
It could be used as it gets chilly in the summer or as part of multi-layering in cold weather.
On, it feels great and has an element of stretch. In addition, it is water-resistant so would hopefully see you through the odd shower during a round.
The Ping Ramsey Vest is a sleeveless ½ zip fleece.
I am a big fan of this type of top. When layering up for warmth these are ideal to keep warm but minimise restriction.
I was impressed by how light and stretchy this top is. It was extremely comfortable and provides that extra layer of warmth with very little restriction in movement.
It is also a perfect to keep in your bag in the summer should things start to get a little cooler later in the day. It has a classy look to it with the subtle Ping logo on the right shoulder.

The Oscar Jacobson Quinn gilet was a delight to wear. Lightweight, water-repellent fabric, and extremely comfortable. It is a great cross-over garment to use on a cooler day or for those brave enough to take on winter golf on those particularly chilly occasions.
The padded upper body warmer is both a stylish and practical to keep nice and warm whilst looking great on the course. It is also ideal as an addition for in and around the clubhouse or just day to day use.
We tested the product on a cool day with a slight breeze which was ideal for the Quinn gilet.
As expected, playing shots was no problem, plenty of mobility across the arms and chest as well as large storage pockets to look after your personal belongings.
Additionally, it wrapped up nice and easily to fit into the main pocket of my golf bag when it did get a little warmer.
A golf gilet has never really been in my wardrobe. I’ve typically opted for a midlayer or a jacket when it gets cold on the course. After trying this LVS Hybrid Jacket, I can safely say this will now be in my golf bag throughout the summer – ideal for when the wind picks up during a round.

The gilet works perfectly as a midlayer replacement. Its lightweight feel means that, unlike a heavier layer, you hardly notice you’re wearing it.
This has to be my favourite golf vest of the year. It just feels and looks quality. The nicely designed ribbons on the end of the zips are also a nice touch.

In winter, one of the most important pieces of gear any golfer can own, apart from a good midlayer, is a quality gilet. It needs to keep you warm, protect you from the elements, and offer complete freedom of movement. Ideally, it should be as lightweight as possible while still providing maximum warmth and protection.
Having had the pleasure of testing the new Maverick Hybrid Stretch Gilet from G/Fore, I must say it’s not the cheapest option out there, but it ticks all the boxes and then some. It kept me incredibly warm thanks to its lightweight Primaloft insulation. I’m not entirely sure what Primaloft is made of, but it feels soft, light, and it absolutely does the job.
What impressed me most was how unrestrictive it felt. I’ve tried other gilets in the past that were bulky or heavy, which can really interfere with your swing. The Maverick, on the other hand, felt effortless, super light and completely non-restrictive.
It’s also a great-looking piece. Stylish enough to wear off the course, it works just as well for outdoor events, bonfire nights, or walking the dog. You can even layer it under a coat for extra warmth.
Overall, I absolutely loved this gilet. It’s practical, stylish, and high performing, a perfect companion for winter golf and beyond.

A comfortable, well-fitting gilet that does exactly what you want it to. It has a snug fit, but the stretch in the material means there’s no restriction at all through the swing, which is key.
It works well layered and I had no issue wearing it over a thicker jumper when needed. It provides that essential extra barrier in cooler, windy conditions without feeling bulky. The lightweight stretch polyester fabric makes it easy to move in and comfortable to wear over a full round.

It kept me warm without feeling bulky, thanks to the lightweight quilted front and stretchy knit back and shoulders that moved with me.
I appreciated the inside pockets, which were perfect for stashing my phone or scorecard, and the Peter Millar envelope with a ball marker was a nice touch.

The only small issue, and maybe it was just me, was that the zip was a little fiddly to do up.

The Stuburt Sigma Second Layer is one of my favourite releases in the Spring Summer collection this year. It strikes a really nice balance between on and off course appeal as it looks really smart. The smartness isn’t at the detriment of the practicality of the piece, the material offers warmth and flexibility positioning it as both a mid-layer and a sole outer layer option.
The four-way stretch stands out, giving you complete freedom through the swing without any restriction. It moves naturally with your body, which is key when layering up. Moisture management is also solid, helping keep you dry when things warm up mid-round.
In terms of fit, it’s comfortable and modern without being too tight, so it works well over a polo. I am 6ft 1 with a larger build, so the XL is an ideal option for me. I am always a fan of quieter apparel pieces, small logos and subtle design so this fits the bill perfectly. The Sigma piece will get plenty of use from me this year.
The Duran Vest is a lightweight vest and is my first introduction to ZR. It is constructed from 80% polyester and 20% spandex and is designed to be stretchy, lightweight and versatile. It looks and feels very well put together.
I tested the version in Navy, one of three cool colours. There is a contrasting light blue placket with four button closures. I thought this was a novel alternative to the usual zip closure and I liked it. There are two open side pockets with mesh lining There is a small ZERO logo to the right chest and a motif at the back of the collar. It comes in five sizes. The medium fitted my medium build comfortably, so I’d say runs true to size.
The fit is relaxed and yet smart. On the course I am pleased to report that the ZR Duran allowed unrestricted swinging, so it’s true to the name. I found it to be an excellent layering piece. I have worn it just over a polo, and also as a third layer. It’s also easy to put a waterproof over the top. Although it is lightweight, I’d say it offers decent warmth to weight.
All in all, this is an excellent product that looks the part and I think will get plenty of wear in the coming season. It comes highly recommended.
This is an ideal black gilet. It’s padded but has a nice amount of flex thanks to the stretch side panels.
I wore this in a small which would be my usual size. It provided a nice fit that was comfortable to keep on for the whole day.
There are zipped pockets on either side which is great for playing golf. The material is a water-resistant and breathable construction.
It kept me warm all round on the course without feeling too heavy. Underneath I had the Warmcore base layer, as well as another thin zip up midlayer. Despite all this, it was still very easy to move in.
I love the back colour-way with the pinkish branding; it looks and feels fab!
