How To Hit The Golf Ball Farther

Many beginner to intermediate golfers want the secrets to hitting the golf ball farther. The answer, however, is no secret. It’s all about the swing, the technique behind it, and the golf club you’ve selected. Fortunately, golfers of any skill level can add distance to their shots by following simple tricks.

These are the things that everyone, from top PGA Tour players to non-professional regular golfers, utilizes to hit the golf ball farther. There’s no need to struggle with distance anymore. Here is how to get more distance and hit the golf ball farther.

Start a Fitness Regimen

A workout program that targets flexibility, strength, coordination, and injury prevention will make you stronger and better equipped to hit the golf ball farther than you’ve ever hit it in the past. Yoga, pilates, home training, and resistance bands are excellent for your health and swing.

As you optimize your body and health, this will rub off on your swing and help you with more control and coordination.

 Buy the Best Golf Clubs

New or used golf clubs will help any player get better. Ensure you have clubs of the correct weight, length, material, and design. Ensure your clubs fit you properly and are correctly aligned to your posture, height, and playing style.

Make Center Contact

With a golf ball, center contact is a must. It’s how you optimize distance. Do not hit the ball over the club face or off-center. Start working with smaller pitch shots to fine-tune and ensure you’re getting center contact.

From there, have a swing between two tees spaced apart. Hit the center of your club and know where to hit the ball in the face. Make it consistent.

Swing Your Golf Club Faster

No ifs, ands, or buts. You must practice swinging your golf club faster to hit the ball farther. That said, don’t swing out of control. Take a seven iron and swing it as fast as you can up to a dozen times.

Work on improving your MPH. In addition, there are training aids that can help you identify this speed and work with protocols to increase it.

Take Your Hands Further Back

Use a longer hand arc. This will assist you in hitting the ball farther. To get a longer hand arc, you can do it by making a turn. It can be a bigger shoulder turn, a bigger hip turn, or letting your left heel come off the ground upon impact.

The key will be never to lift your arms and club back. Practice with control of every swing.

Optimize Footwork

Use the ground to help you gain distance. The ground has power behind it that the best golfers know how to use. Take a club and make small swings with it. Feel the weight move side to side.

Lengthen the swing but keep the side-to-side movement. Your swing will naturally start to get bigger. At that time, your heels can come up, and with each swing, you can start pushing yourself off the ground.

Work on Shaft Lean

Shaft lean is tough for many golfers. They should have their shaft leaning more forward than when it started, but most find it leaning back at impact. This adds loft and reduces contact with the golf ball.

By improving how the impact is made, you don’t need to swing faster to increase the power behind a golf swing. Practice your impact position. Work on going back and forth into setup and impact and making adjustments as needed.

Have a Great Sequence

A great sequence is equally important, if not more important, than the power behind the swing. Look at your sequence if you’re struggling to hit the ball far. A player with bad sequencing might go club first, arms, shoulders, lower body, or shoulders, arms, club, and then lower body.

All elite golf players use the correct sequence to start their downswing with the lower body, upper body, arms, and club.

If You Dare, Increase the Tempo

Most of the time, new golfers are told to slow down. This is true when practising because you want to get the swing mechanics right. However, in the game, when you’re trying to hit the golf ball far, have a faster tempo.

Doing this will help your body cue in that it needs more power and technique, and naturally, this will add power behind a speedier swing.

Use a Better Golf Ball

Golf balls come in all types of material. Some are more likely to be hit at high speeds. The difficulty is in finding the right golf ball for hitting it far. You also need the correct golf club to compress a golf club and optimize your distance.

A ball designed to go further may sacrifice spin around the greens. You may need to structure your hit to be shorter but with more control as an alternative. Think about what is most important to you when selecting a golf ball and golf club to match.
