Tiger Woods gives us all the feels in this Annika Sorenstam clip

We love seeing this side of the GOAT

In a previous life I had opportunity to cover the Davis Cup in Belgium, when an Andy Murray-inspired Great Britain won their 10th title and first since 1936.

During that week, I was involved in a lovely moment that involved Murray introducing himself to me – as if I was going to offer my hand and say: “Sorry, mate, and you are?”

It was nothing out of character for someone who is one of, if not the finest sports stars these islands have ever produced, who also happens to be remarkably humble for someone of his fame and fortune.

You can tell a lot about someone’s character, particularly with celebrities, by how they behave around us normal people, and that’s why this clip of Tiger Woods doing the rounds from the weekend is as heartwarming as it is humbling.

During the latest playing of The Match, in which Woods and partner Rory McIlroy were downed by Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth at Pelican Golf Club in Florida, there was a lovely moment caught on camera by Sorenstam’s husband Mike McGee…

There’s just so much to love about this.

The way Woods’ eyes light up when he sees his fellow GOAT. “Hi! Good to see you,” he says as he pulls Sorenstam in for a warm embrace. (Just the 25 majors between these two.)

Then Sorenstam and McGee’s son, Will, comes over to say hello. Woods shakes his hand and says: “Hi, I’m Tiger.” As if Will was going to say: “Sorry, mate, and you are?”

It’s difficult to pick up what is said after that, but it’s possible they were discussing next week’s PNC Championship, in which both Woods and Sorenstam will compete alongside their sons.

“This warms my heart,” McGee tweeted alongside the video.

And ours, Mike. And how good is to see more and more of this side of Woods? A side that we certainly never saw in his heyday.
