Has Phil Mickelson been banned by the PGA Tour? We’ll have to wait to find out. Perhaps we never will.
In a press conference that would make politicians blush, Mickelson told reporters at the inaugural LIV Golf Invitational that he is “learning lessons”.
The six-time major champion, who has been on hiatus since February after making comments that he now describes as “reckless”, will tee up at Centurion this week after reportedly signing a deal worth $200 million with the Saudi-backed organisation.
On that, he says, “contract agreements should remain private”.
As for those lessons he’s learned, Mickelson has decided not to speak publicly any more about the PGA Tour, for which he has lifetime membership.
But he will be teeing up at the US Open next week. The USGA announced on Tuesday that LIV Golf players would be welcome at Brookline, and Mickelson is keen to tee up in the one major he needs to complete his Grand Slam.
