Which golfers would you want on your pub quiz team?
The rules are brief. You are allowed a team of four so it’s you and three other tour golfers. Expect the usual topics of current affairs, sport, music, geography etc – Dan Murphy, Joe Hughes and Andrew Wright are the other team captains…
Andy: John Daly would be first on the team sheet. Not only has he released a surprisingly good album but he’d be a good laugh and we’re at the pub after all.
Next up would be Laura Davies. She seems to have an interest in a few different sports and is always brilliant on A Question of Sport. The mix of her and Daly could also provide some fireworks. Round off the team with Retief Goosen for no other reason than he’s my favourite player and I’d love to see what he’d be like with a few drinks in him.
Dan: Padraig Harrington for a start. He is worldly wise, and curious. I think Phil would be useful as well. Between them, they would have the answers to lots of questions. They’d also both try far too hard, and take it far too seriously, which is essential.
I’m aware that we now have too many grey hairs on our team so to balance it off we’d need someone who is down with the kids to help us out with the popular culture stuff. It’s tricky though because we don’t want anyone to ruin the vibe. Bob MacIntyre would be ideal apart from I’m not sure he’d be much better than the rest of us on the zeitgeist stuff. That could be unfair, but it is my team after all.
Let’s go for Viktor Hovland, I think he’d be good company.
Joe: A quick scroll through Billy Horschel’s Twitter feed will tell you that he’s a big fan of college sports in America. I’ll back my self to cover the English side of things and leave any American-based sports questions to him.
Then I’d have Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth making up the team because they seem like the type of blokes I’d get on well with. Who knows, they may even know a thing or two about geography from their travels.
My verdict: Front and centre would be Jason Dufner. I think he’d be sneaky good on anything and he’d probably also enjoy the half-time sandwiches that any good pub quiz should offer. Three hours in his company would blow my mind.
Equally as obvious is Eddie Pepperell who’s very amusing and seems to have a rock-solid grasp of stocks and shares and current affairs which is generally when I go very quiet in a quiz. He’d also enjoy the nibbles.
Finally, to make sure Eddie had a nice time, I would also include Laurie Canter as they get on well and he seems very funny which would take the pressure off me socially and also free me up to get stuck into The Duf. It breaks my heart a little that I haven’t found room for Ken Brown in this set-up but I still think the four of us would have a right old laugh.

Been watching and playing golf since the early 80s and generally still stuck in this period. Huge fan of all things Robert Rock, less so white belts. Handicap of 8, fragile mind and short game
