Westwood makes i20 switch
It doesn't happen very often, but Lee Westwood has changed his equipment...
Lee Westwood doesn't like to change his equipment, so once something works for him, he keeps it in the bag a long time.
Indeed, the Englishman has been using the same Ping i10 irons and G10 driver for over five years.
The reason for his reluctance to change is how difficult he finds it to get a shaft and head that match and suit his swing.
"If you put a club in someone’s hand that doesn’t suit them, after two or three shots they’re going to change their swing, their rhythm – they’ll have made it suit them by that point," Westwood said.
“I normally give a club two or three shots and if it doesn’t feel right, I move on."
Ping's new i20 irons - the modern-day equivalent of his i10s - made a fantastic first impression. So much so that he has them in the bag this week and has already forged a three-shot lead at the Nordea Masters thanks to rounds of 68 and 64.
That's no mean feat - Bro Hoff Slott is one of Europe's toughest tracks - and Westwood was quick to praise his new equipment on Twitter.
"Really liking my new ping i20 irons. Getting the hang of how far they go now . 68-64 . -12 for the tournament."(sic)
The Nottinghamshire native has also put a new putter - the high-MOI Ping Nome - in the bag, which he described on the social networking website as 'awesome'.
