Hindley Hall Golf Club

Wigan, Lancashire

Mature parkland course which has re-laid all 18 greens
Hindley Hall is a private golf club but extends a warm welcome to visitors to its mature parkland course which is situated in a peaceful and tranquil setting.

The club was founded in 1905 and its par-69 course is highly regarded in the North West,  providing a fair but challenging test for all.

Many holes are tree lined, with the lake coming into play on the 1st and 11th holes.

A number of major developments and improvements have taken place in recent years. All 18 greens have been re-laid, new tees added, trees planted and drainage improved.

The clubhouse has also benefited from significant renovation to the lounge and dining room and is ideal for post-round refreshments with magnificent views across the course.

The challenge really begins at the 2nd, which is a long par 3 with out of bounds down the left. The green has been generously endowed with bunkers so that the tee-shot must not be off-line.
In the closing stretch, the 15th is a very picturesque hole which demands respect, even although it offers a birdie opportunity. However, many cards have been wrecked here.
Course management is the key to the next hole; the line for the drive is just right of the fairway bunker while the second shot should be a lay-up short of the next set of bunkers down the right-hand side of the fairway.

This will leave a short iron to this well-bunkered green – and hopefully the chance of an early birdie.

On the 8th, the ball must carry the valley and stream off the tee. A ball on the left on the fairway gives a good line in to this sloping green, leaving an uphill putt which will again give you a chance of a birdie.

The back nine begins with you being asked to avoid the two fairway bunkers which are located on the right to catch a pushed drive.

The best course management on this hole is to lay up short of the second set of fairway bunkers leaving a short iron to the green.

At the next, the lake runs down the left so a drive left of centre of the fairway will set up a good approach – but a wayward second shot can find trouble both left and right.

In the closing stretch, the 15th is a very picturesque hole which demands respect, even although it offers a birdie opportunity. However, many cards have been wrecked here.

Two holes later you come to a dog-leg left with out of bounds on the left. Big hitters may have a go at driving the green but after a good drive a birdie is still no certainty if the ball is caught by one of the greenside bunkers.
